How can you celebrate this Do-It-Yourself marketing month with mobile? There are tons of ways. I would suggest email marketing as a great way to tackle a new part of your mobile marketing or to hone your skill.
Many business owners understand that email marketing is a two sided sword. First it really does produce results. Secondly there are so many other businesses competing in people’s inbox for attention that often our marketing messages gets unnoticed.
One thing we can do that is very easy to do is to format our emails correctly for mobile users. Now, I know what you are thinking. “What about all those other users?”
Well, quite honestly more and more are using email on their phone. That’s a big point you need to get right off. Secondly, more and more will be. Desktop computers will be getting less and less attention. So you need to take this step in preparation anway.
Thirdly, email formatted for mobile users doesn’t have to be a bad experience for desktop users. In fact, they probably won’t even notice. It’s a win, win.
So, what exactly is necessary? Emails need to not be allowed to wrap any old way. They need to be constructed of short lines and short paragraphs.
More text, less graphics (preferably no graphics). If you really need graphics to bring a point home, then send them a link that goes to a web page (a mobile optimized web page, mind you.)
Taking the time to format your emails correctly will increase your readability and response rates. You can get a handy tool that will help you do this from Laymans Learning.
